Sir,

In reply to your letter of the 20th Ultimo requesting that a medical Officer if the Squadron under my orders may remain with the troops stationed at Fort Langley, in British Columbia, I beg to place the services of Dr. Mitchell, Supernumerary Assistant Surgeon of the "Ganges", at your Excellency's disposal.

Dr. Mitchell will be borne on the books of the Senior Officer's Ship in these waters for detached duty

Note: The RE at Langley now have a Medical Officer to minister to them.  Mitchell will be the first non-RE to be attached to the Detachment.  He will remain in the Detachment, on detached service from the pacific Squadron, for years to come.
