John McGowan volunteered for service with the Columbia Detachment and traveled to British Columbia on board the Thames City.

He landed in the Colony the 12th of April 1859.

At the Manse, New Westminster, on the 31st of October, by the Reverend R. Jamison, Mr. John McGowan, RE, to Miss Mary Watt.
