Sapper

Thomas Forgie

I beg to recommend that [Thomas Forgie (particularly) have his] pay raised again in consequence of [his] good conduct.

Forgie has been on short pay for a long time, I believe since he last got drunk or otherwise committed himself.  When sober, I wouldn't wish for a more willing, hard-working man.

--letter from Captain Haig to Colonel Hawkins, 6th June 1859
