As a Sapper Ellard's Regimental Pay per Diem would have been 1s. 2 1/2d. plus Working Pay per Diem of 1s. to 4s.

Ellard, along with fellow Royal Engineer J.H. Brown, take over the ownership of a local saloon and advertise it in The British Columbian.
