JANET L. MATHEWS/The
Columbian
When Doreen Jones arrived at the Fort
Vancouver National Historic Site on Sunday to visit Brigade
Encampment 2004, she was honored with an act of old-fashioned
chivalry. Vancouver, B.C., residents David Funk, left, and
Simon Sherwood have taken part in re-enactment events for years, but
this was their first trip to Fort Vancouver. When asked about
their assistance of Jones -- they also helped her into her car when
she left -- the two gave a historically appropriate answer: They saw
a lady without a hat in the heat of the day and did what was
gentlemanly. Temperatures could be in the 90s again today. |
